(Video) How to Become More Confident (An Everyday Practice!)
Confidence is a funny thing.
Many of us were taught that some people are just naturally ‘more confident’ than others. Self esteem tends to be linked with the feeling of confidence. And most of us can think of something in our life that we are confident in.
Feeling confident feels awesome. We all love that feeling. It’s empowering, and motivating. We feel like we’re capable. But sadly, having a lack of confidence can become the easiest way to stunt our growth.
Let’s take one of my biggest challenges in life…
Skiing.
It sounds silly, but living in the front range of the Colorado Rocky mountains is a fast pass ticket to some of the best skiing in the world. (As my husband will tell you.) Practically every local person I know loves to ski. So learning how to get my body down the mountain on a beautiful bluebird day is a prerequisite to being a true ‘Coloradan.’ I’ve tried, I swear. But with each time I get on the mountain, that same feeling of terror suffocates my body. I drown in thoughts of I’m not capable and I’m not cut out for this type of stuff.
Some days, I let fear invade my body. I choose to stunt my growth by attaching to negative thoughts about myself. Other days, I lean into the discomfort.
How liberating it is to know that we are not our thoughts! AND…
Confidence is a choice.
In any moment that presents discomfort, we can decide to either:
Let fear invade.
Notice & shift our thoughts.
Moments are life’s accumulations. Choosing become aware AND redirect our thoughts is a moment by moment practice.
WHERE CAN YOU FOCUS YOUR THOUGHTS TODAY?
I’m with you on this journey,
Allie
